Four Run Seventh Inning Lifts Redhawks Over Penn St. Behrend

ERIE, PA – The Redhawks (21-7, 10-3) defeated Penn State Behrend (17-9, 9-4) 8-6 in an important AMCC Conference game on Saturday. The win gives La Roche sole possession of first place in the AMCC with five conference games remaining.

The Redhawks trailed 4-1 before tying the game in the top of the fifth inning. Ryan Fennell led off the inning with a double and scored two batters later on a single by Chester Kirkwood. Ed Skonieczny and Brian Herb also scored in the inning.

The Lions took back the lead in the bottom of the inning but La Roche answered with four runs in the top of the seventh inning. The inning was highlighted by a George Nahay two RBI single.

Starting pitcher went five innings and allowed six runs on nine hits while striking out one and walking one. Ray Snyder threw two scoreless innings to record the win.

Fennell went 2 for 4 with two runs batted in and scored a run. Nahay reached base twice and added two RBI and Skonieczny recorded two hits. Fennell, Mitchell Meyers, and Anthony Girdano each registered a double in the win.

La Roche Baseball will travel to Thiel College on Tuesday, April 26 at 4:00PM before returning home to play a double-header against Mt. Aloysius on Wednesday, April 27.

The second half of the double-header was suspended due to inclement weather while tied 2-2 in the fifth inning.
