Redhawks Fall to Freedom Conference Champions Misericordia

FORT PIERCE, FL – La Roche Baseball (4-2) fell to Misericordia (8-2) 9-5 in a nine-inning game on Wednesday in cool and rainy Florida. Misericordia is currently receiving Top 25 votes and has reached the NCAA Tournament the past two seasons.

The Redhawks trailed 2-0 in the third inning but Shane Healey doubled down the right field line to score Colin Williamson and cut the deficit to one run. Healey advance to second on a groundout by Brian Herb and Anthony Girdano followed by singling home Healey to tie it at 2-2.

Misericordia answered with 6 runs over the next three innings, but La Roche scored 3 runs in the top of the seventh inning to get back into the game. Jon Watson and Brad Goedeker contributed back-to-back RBI triples and Healey drove in an RBI single to make it an 8-5 game. However, Misericordia tallied a run in the bottom of the inning to hold on.

Healey went 2 for 5 with a double, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored. Williamson registered 2 hits and scored and Watson had an RBI triple and scored a run. Girdano and Goedeker each recorded RBIs and Troy Bell scored a run. Sean Lubin reached base twice in the loss.

Starting pitcher Cole Lentz (0-1) went 3.1 innings allowing 5 runs on 5 hits while striking out 6 batters.  Walt Hadjuk allowed 3 runs (2 earned runs) on 2 hits in an inning of work and Tim Devine gave up 1 run while striking out 3 batters in 2.1 innings. Jesse Bauer pitched a scoreless 1.1 innings of relief.

The Redhawks will play a pair of games against Marywood University tomorrow in Fort Pierce, FL. Marywood made it to the ECAC Tournament Semifinal last season.
