Redhawks Clinch Fourth Straight 20 Win Season With 11-7 Victory Over St. Vincent

LATROBE, PA – La Roche Baseball (20-6) improved to 9-0 against President Athletic Conference schools after rallying with two runs in the eighth inning and four runs in the ninth to defeat St. Vincent College (12-9) 11-7. The victory clinches a school record fourth consecutive twenty win season.

Anthony Girdano broke open a 1-1 tie with a 2-RBI single in the top of the fifth inning. Franzee Baralamas led off the inning with a walk and stole second base before Shane Healey reached on a bunt single to put runners on the corners. Sean Lubin was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Girdano lined a single to left field to take a 3-1 lead. Two batters later Colin Fiekles hit a sac fly to deep center field to put the Redhawks up three runs.

St. Vincent answered with four runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning and carried a 7-5 lead into the top half of the eighth inning before La Roche took control of the game.

The Redhawks tied it up in the eighth inning thanks to runs by Colin Williamson and Jon Watson, and Brian Herb provided a pinch-hit RBI single. Tim Devine followed by tossing a scoreless bottom half of the eighth inning and an RBI single from Dan Burns, a Fiekles' RBI double, and a Jon Watson 2-RBI single put La Roche up for good.

Starting pitcher Cole Lentz gave up 5 runs and struck out 5 in 4 2/3 innings of work and Ian Kelly allowed an earned run in 2 1/3 innings. Devine notched his second win of the year with a scoreless eighth inning and Jesse Bauer retired the side in the ninth.

The Redhawks got on base twenty-three times in the game including Healey and Williamson who each reached 4 times. Girdano, Fiekles, and Watson produced 2 RBIs apiece and Burns and Herb both had one. Healey, Williamson, Lubin, and Baralamas all crossed home plate twice while Burns, Fiekles, and Watson scored a run. Baralamas also swiped 2 bags.

The Redhawks will look to take the season series when they travel to Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday. La Roche edged the Yellow Jackets 4-3 at John Arnold Sr. Memorial Field on March 23.
