PITTSBURGH, PA – La Roche Baseball (27-11) fell to the PAC's top team, Washington & Jefferson (22-10), 10-8 on senior day at John Arnold Sr. Memorial Field.
Washington and Jefferson scored twice in the top of the first to take a 2-0 lead but La Roche answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning. Shane Healey reached on a leadoff walk and scored on a sacrifice fly to right field which cut the deficit to just one run.
In the fifth inning, senior Darryl Robinson hit a blast over the left field wall and then roped a 2-RBI triple to the right centerfield wall in the sixth inning to make it a 9-4 game. Healey singled home Robinson in the next at bat to get within four runs of the Presidents.
Robinson struck again in the top of the eighth inning with an RBI single to left field to score Colin Williamson. In the ninth, Dan Burns doubled to left field to lead off the inning before Jon Watson hit a home run over the trees in left field to get within two, but W&J held on for the win.
Robinson finished a double short of the cycle and went 3 for 3 with a home run, triple, 4 RBI, and 2 runs. Watson blasted a 2-run home run, singled, and scored, and Sean Lubin registered 2 infield singles and stolen base. Healey got on base three times, scored, and hit in a run, and Burns, Williamson, and Craig scored runs.
La Roche Baseball will travel to Penn State Behrend on Saturday, May 11 for an AMCC Semifinal game. The Redhawks get a first round bye before facing the winner of #3 Mount Aloysius and #6 Pitt-Bradford.
