Baseball Splits With #21 Washington and Jefferson

WASHINGTON, PA – La Roche Baseball split a pair of games with #21 Washington and Jefferson 13-3 (W), 5-3 (L) on Tuesday night in an AMCC vs. PAC matchup. The game 1 victory marked the second straight week that the Redhawks defeated a top 25 team.

La Roche entered the third inning of game 1 with a 2-1 lead but a 10-run top half of the inning broke open a close game. Brian Tougher, John Watson, and Colin Williamson registered consecutive singles to lead off the inning and Corey Lazor followed with a 2-run single into centerfield. Matt Sabatini doubled to the right-centerfield gap to score Williamson and Franzee Barlamas singled home Lazor. Tougher contributed a 3-RBI double and Watson capped the inning with a 2-run homer.

La Roche added a run in the seventh when Watson roped an RBI single into centerfield.

Watson went 3 for 5 with a home run, 3 RBI, and scored twice. Tougher doubled twice and finished with 4 RBI and 3 runs while Lazor hit in two and scored. Baralamas scored twice and added an RBI and Williamson, Podvasnik, and Sabatini all scored runs. Sabatini and Simone had RBIs in the victory.

Cole Lentz registered the victory after tossing 4 innings and giving up just one earned run. Walt Hadjuk allowed just one run in two innings of relief and Adam Rousseau pitched a scoreless final inning.

Tougher hit a 2-run homer and the Redhawks held a 3-1 lead heading into the sixth, but W&J scored 4 in the bottom half of the inning and held on for the win. 

Tougher finished with 2 RBI and Simone had one. Barlamas, Williamson, and Tougher scored a run each.

The baseball team will host Thiel College on Friday in a single 9-inning game.
