PITTSBURGH, PA – La Roche Baseball received quality pitching and timely hitting as they went on to sweep Grove City 5-4 (10 innings), 4-2 on Saturday afternoon at John Arnold Sr. Memorial Field.
The Redhawks came back to take game 1 5-4 in 10 innings. Grove City scored 2 runs in the first and added 2 in the second to take a 4-0 lead after two innings. The Redhawks got two back in the bottom of the third when Brian Tougher doubled home Matt Sabatini and Franzee Barlamas to cut it to 4-2. Corey Lazor cut the lead to just a run with an RBI single in the fourth.
The Redhawks went into the bottom of the seventh inning trailing by a run but Sabatini led the inning off with a walk while Barlamas and Lubin got on with a hit and HBP. Tougher followed with a sacrifice to right field to send it into extra innings.
Grove City nearly took a lead in the top of the 10th inning but Lubin made two terrific sliding grabs to leave a runner stranded at third base. La Roche carried the momentum into the bottom half of the inning and John Watson scored the winning run on a wild pitch.
Colin Williamson went 3 for 5 and scored while Brian Tougher added 3 RBIs. Corey Lazor registered an RBI and Franzee Barlamas, John Watson, Colin Williamson, Matt Sabatini, and Devin Pritts all scored runs. Alex Simone and Sean Lubin each had two hits in the win.
Starting pitcher Walt Hadjuk allowed just one run in six innings to register the 4-2 game 2 win.
Franzee Baralamas gave the Redhawks a 1-0 lead in the third inning of game 2 with a double to the right field gap. Tougher extended the lead to two in the next at bat with a liner down the left field line. La Roche scored two more in the bottom of the fifth with a Sean Lubin single past the diving shortstop.
Grove City got one back on a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth but relief pitcher Brady Hamer shut down the Wolverines in the seventh as La Roche held on for the 4-2 win.
Colin Fiekles had 3 hits and scored while Barlamas went 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles, 2 runs, and an RBI.
The Redhawks will host Thiel tomorrow at John Arnold Sr. Memorial Field. First pitch is set for 2PM.
