PITTSBURGH, PA – The Redhawks (8-6) dropped a non-conference game to Thiel College 10-5 on a chilly Monday afternoon at John Arnold Sr. Memorial Field.
Thiel College took a 2-0 lead in the third inning when Brian Genco and Austin Van Hoy scored on two La Roche errors.
La Roche tied it up in the bottom of the fourth on a balk. Simone reached third base on a bloop single to short right field before advancing home on the pitcher's mistake. Thiel regained the lead in the top of the fifth but Brian Tougher smacked a double to the right-center field wall to even it up.
The Tomcats took back the lead in the seventh on a double and two singles and added six more in the top of the eighth. Cody Scruggs doubled up the right field line and Ben Herstine singled him home to cut the deficit in the eighth and Tougher doubled home Lubin in the ninth, but Thiel held on for the 10-5 win.
Tougher continued to smash the ball with a pair of RBI doubles. He now has 14 RBI in the past 6 games and leads the AMCC Conference with 17 RBI.
Lazor scored twice while Alex Simone and Cody Scruggs added a run each. Lubin notched a run scored and RBI and Herstine collected his first career RBI.
La Roche Baseball will return to the diamond tomorrow when they host Baldwin Wallace in a double-header. First-pitch is scheduled for 1PM.
