Baseball Splits Conference Opener With Pitt-Greensburg

PITTSBURGH, PA – La Roche Baseball split a double-header with Pitt-Greensburg 10-0 (w), 4-0 (l) in their AMCC Conference opener on Thursday at John Arnold Senior Memorial Field.

Starting pitcher Jesse Bauer and relief pitcher Ryan Fennell combined for a complete game shutout as La Roche cruised in the first game 10-0.

The Redhawks took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two run single to centerfield by John Watson. Sean Lubin walked and Brian Tougher singled before both were hit home by Watson for a two run lead.

La Roche extended their lead to three on a Tougher single to left field in the second inning and added another two runs in the third with a bases loaded walk and an RBI single to left off the bat of Sean Lubin.

The Redhawks scored five runs in the fourth on a bases loaded walk, a three run triple by Franzee Barlamas and singles by Colin Fiekles and Luis Navedo. Bauer and Ryan Fennell allowed just three baserunners over the final three innings to register the 10-0 victory.

Barlamas went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI, a triple, and run scored while Fiekles scored all three times he reached base, doubled, and added an RBI. Navedo and Watson had 2 RBIs apiece and Alex Simone scored twice. Lubin and Tougher both had RBIs and scored for the Redhawks.

Bauer was extremely effective on the mound allowing just three base runners in six innings of shutout ball. Fennell threw a scoreless inning of relief.

Despite a strong pitching performance by Walt Hadjuk in the second game the Redhawks fell 4-0.

Pitt-Greensburg took a 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly in the top of the second inning and added two more on an error in the fifth. An RBI single to centerfield put the Bobcats up 4-0 in the sixth inning and Pitt-Greensburg held on for the 4-0 win.

Hadjuk threw all seven innings and allowed 4 runs (2 earned runs) while striking out 4 and walking none.

La Roche Baseball will host Penn State Behrend on Saturday in a rematch of the 2013 AMCC Conference Championship.
