ERIE, PA – La Roche Baseball (18-11, 9-1) extended their win-streak to six games after sweeping Hilbert College (3-19, 0-8) 16-1, 19-2 in a double-header on Sunday afternoon.
The Redhawks got things started with two runs in the top of the first of Game 1 with an RBI triple from Franzee Barlamas and then added two more in the third on a John Watson sacrifice fly and Colin Fiekles' infield single. Watson extended the lead to eight runs in the fourth with La Roche's second grand slam of the season before scoring one in the fifth, four in the sixth, and three more in the seventh.
Watson hit in 5 runs and scored three while finishing just a triple shy of the cycle. Barlamas went 3 for 4 with 4 runs, and an RBI and Anthony Girdano went 3 for 5 with 3 RBI and scored twice. Luis Navedo and Sean Lubin had 2 RBI apiece and Brian Tougher scored twice.
Redhawks' starter Tyler Ferguson did not allow a hit until the sixth inning and gave up just that one hit in six innings while striking out nine batters.
La Roche continued to pitch well and swing the hot bat to take the second game 19-2.
The Redhawks jumped out to a 5-0 first inning lead thanks to home runs by Watson and Fiekles and a triple from Colin Williamson. La Roche went up 10-0 in the top of the second on five straight singles and added six more runs in the fourth on four singles and three doubles. The Redhawks got one in the sixth and two in the seventh for the 19-2 win.
Pitcher Cole Lentz improved to 5-1 on the year after allowing just 2 runs in 5 innings of work.
La Roche Baseball will travel to Denison University on Wednesday for a non-conference game against the Big Red.
