Redhawks Earn Berth in AMCC Championship Game With 3-1 Win Over Behrend

PITTSBURGH, PA – Starting pitcher Tyler Ferguson had another stellar performance leading the Redhawks to a 3-1 victory over Penn State Behrend and a place in tomorrow's AMCC Championship Game. La Roche will play the winner of Behrend vs. Pitt-Greensburg for the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

Penn State Behrend took a 1-0 lead in the fourth with an RBI double down the right field line. The Lions had a chance to break it open in the inning with the bases loaded and no outs but Tyler Ferguson got a strikeout and an inning ending double play to keep it a one score game.

The Redhawks answered in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI groundout to the shortstop. Sean Lubin dragged a bunt up the first base line to lead off the inning and scored three batters later on Matt Sabatini's groundout.

La Roche gained the lead on Brian Tougher's 2-out bloop single in the seventh to score Sabatini. Ferguson took the momentum into the bottom half of the inning sending down the Lions in order. Watson added an insurance run with a RBI triple in the eighth.

Ferguson went the distance to earn his tenth win of the season. He struck out nine batters and gave up just one run on five hits to run his win streak to seven against AMCC Conference competition. He threw an impressive 133 pitches in the victory.

Sabatini finished with 2 hits, an RBI, and scored while Lubin got on three times and scored twice. Watson and Tougher produced RBIs and Barlamas and Williamson each got on base twice.

First pitch of the Penn State Behrend vs. Pitt-Greensburg is scheduled for 9AM. La Roche will play the winner shortly after the game's conclusion.
