Redhawks Fall to Otterbein in Extra Innings

CHILLOCOTHE, OH -- #24 La Roche Baseball (6-3) played to extra innings in a tough road game before falling to Otterbein University (10-1) 6-5. The Redhawks nearly had the winning run in the sixth but a close play at plate kept it tied.

A John Watson RBI triple and a Franzee Barlamas run scoring single gave La Roche a 2-0 lead halfway through the third inning. Otterbein put four on the board in the bottom half of the inning but starting pitcher Regis Sauers held the hosts scoreless over the next three innings.

The Redhawks responded with a pair of runs to tie it in the sixth. Watson hit his second triple of the game scoring Dave Lemley and Matt Sabatini. Colin Williamson nearly scored on the next play but he was called out on a close play at home.

La Roche and Otterbein swapped runs in the seventh and eighth innings. The Redhawks had men in scoring position in the ninth but they could not convert and Otterbein won it in eleven innings.
Colin Williamson had 3 hits and scored while Watson hit in 3 on a pair of triples. Sabatini and Barlamas each finished with an RBI and run while Lemley and Luis Navedo scored runs.

Sauers gave up 4 earned runs (5 runs) on 7 hits in 6.2 innings of work. Matt Thompson threw a scoreless 1.1 innings and Walt Hadjuk allowed one run in 2.2 innings of relief. 

The Redhawks will play their second straight OAC school on Thursday when they host #12 Marietta. The game is scheduled for noon at Consol Energy Park.
