Baseball Splits With Medaille

PITTSBURGH, PA -- La Roche Baseball split a double-header with Medaille 5-1 (W), 8-7 (L) ending their twenty-three game win-streak against AMCC Conference teams.

Franzee Barlamas doubled home Colin Feikles and Brian Tougher followed with an RBI single to give La Roche a 2-0 lead in the first. Tyler Ferguson sat Medaille down in order in the bottom of the first and Matt Sabatini picked a runner off at third to end the second inning.

Ferguson stranded runners in the third and fourth innings and Cory Podvasnik hit a towering home run deep over the right field wall for a 3-0 lead.

Medaille got one back in the sixth but Barlamas produced an RBI on a bunt single to go back up four runs in the seventh. Ferguson threw a perfect bottom of the seventh for the 5-1 Game 1 victory.

Podvasnik homered for the second straight game. Williamson scored 3 runs, while Barlamas hit in 2 and Tougher hit in one.

Ferguson recorded the complete game victory after striking out 8 in seven innings.

Navedo singled home Williamson to take a 1-0 lead in Game 2. La Roche added a second run in the fourth on a John Watson hit up the middle. The Mavericks took the lead in the bottom of the fourth with seven runs (1 earned run).

The Redhawks began to chip away at the lead over the next few innings. In the fifth inning, a Brian Tougher RBI double into the right field corner sparked the rally and Lemley followed with a gapper for an RBI double.

La Roche cut the deficit to one run in the top of the eighth and tied it in the ninth when Podvasnik roped a single into right scoring Lemley.

Medaille loaded the bases in the bottom half of the inning but relief pitcher Brady Hamer got Avery Bet-Payuma to chase a 3-2 pitch to end the threat. However, Medaille loaded the bases again in the tenth and won it on a walkoff single.

La Roche Baseball will travel to Thiel on Tuesday for a non-conference game. Game time is 3pm.
