Redhawks Rally to Beat Greensburg in Game 1, Sauers Throws Shutout in Game 2

PITTSBURGH, PA -- La Roche Baseball found two different ways to earn a double-header sweep over Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday. The Redhawks used a late inning rally to win Game 1 6-5 (8 innings) and then shutout the Bobcats 4-0 in Game 2.

Pitt-Greensburg had runners on second and third with two outs in the second of Game 1 but Cory Podvasnik got a groundout to end the threat. The Redhawks responded with two runs in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly and RBI single to go up 2-0. The Bobcats took a 5-2 lead in the third but La Roche got two back in bottom half of the inning and nearly tied it in the fifth but were called out on a play at the plate.

The Redhawks rallied in the seventh to force extra innings. Franzee Barlamas was hit by and pitch and scored on Ben Herstine's sac fly to deep centerfield. Walt Hadjuk came in to relieve in the eighth and sent the Bobcats down in order. La Roche loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning and senior Brian Tougher came through with the game winning hit.

Tougher got on base four times with an RBI and scored. Dylan Wolsonvich went 2 for 3 with an RBI and run and Barlamas scored twice. Colin Williamson had 2 hits and an RBI while Luis Navedo and Corey Lazor each scored a run.

David Lemley was terrific in relief throwing 4 scoreless innings and allowing just three base runners. Hadjuk earned the win in relief.

Tougher opened the second game with an RBI single and Lazor put the Redhawks up 2-0 in the fourth inning. Pitt-Greensburg threatened in the sixth but Luis Navedo ran down a ball in centerfield to end the inning. The Redhawks added two more in the sixth and that was the only scoring Regis Sauers needed as he shut down the Bobcats.

Sauers threw the complete game shutout and allowed just seven base runners in seven innings of work. Tougher went 3 for 3 with a run and RBI and Podvasnik scored twice.

La Roche Baseball will play a double-header at Pitt-Bradford on Saturday. Pitt-Bradford is 3-1 in the AMCC.
