BRADFORD, PA – The La Roche College baseball team clinched their sixth straight AMCC Tournament berth with a 5-0, 18-1 double-header sweep of Pitt-Bradford on Sunday. The Redhawks can clinch a bye and home field advantage if they sweep Hilbert next Saturday.
Starting pitcher Tanner Wilt had another strong outing in La Roche's Game 1 win. He did not give up an extra base hit and put the Bobcats down in order in four of his seven innings of work. The victory was Wilt's third of the season and his second complete game victory. He also struck out seven batters while allowing just one walk.
The Redhawks middle of the order provided the offense. Luis Navedo, Cory Podvasnik, Brian Tougher and John Watson all finished with two hits. Franzee Barlamas scored, tripled and hit in two while Navedo and Watson had the other RBIs.
Pitt-Bradford gave up a season-high 18 runs as La Roche broke out the bats in the Game 2 victory. Half of the Redhawks runs came in the third inning including three on Podvasnik's triple. All but one hitter reached base in the inning and La Roche was just three spots shy of going through their batting order twice.
The Redhawks went through their entire order again in the fifth when they scored five runs. Barlamas and Colin Williamson both had run-scoring singles in the inning.
Ben Herstine went 4 for 5 with 3 RBI and scored twice. Podvansnik had three hits, 3 RBI and 3 runs while Tougher scored three times and hit in one. Watson and Colin Feikles both hit in two in the win.
La Roche will travel to Baldwin Wallace for a double-header on Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets are currently ranked 18th in the nation and they made it to the World Series last season.
