Baseball Advances to Fourth Straight AMCC Championship Game

PITTSBURGH, PA – The La Roche Baseball team advanced to their fourth straight AMCC Championship game after defeating Penn State Behrend 19-4 in tournament action on Saturday. The Redhawks will play a rematch of either the 2013 (Penn State Behrend) or 2014 (Pitt-Greensburg) AMCC Championships.

Penn State Behrend loaded the bases with no outs in the third inning but starting pitcher Tyler Ferguson limited the damage to just one run. The Redhawks responded in the bottom half of the inning on a John Watson groundout that scored Dylan Wolsonovich.

The visiting Lions used a pair of 2-out singles in the fifth to go back on top 3-1 but once again the home squad answered. Colin Feikles doubled to the right field wall to tie it up and Colin Williamson flied out to center to give La Roche their first lead of the day.

Ferguson got out of a bases loaded jam in the sixth and then La Roche broke it open with a double digit inning. Matt Sabatini and John Watson provided RBI singles and Feikles registered his second 2-run double of the game. The Redhawks added seven more runs in the inning and they nearly batted through the order twice. Cory Podvasnik capped off the victory with his second home run of the tournament.

Podvasnik hit his ninth career home run to climb into a tie for fourth place on the school's all-time list. He is also just one shy of tying the single season record.

Wolsonovich went 4 for 5 with 4 runs, 3 RBIs and a walk. Feikles hit in four and scored while Franzee Barlamas went 4 for 4 with 3 runs and an RBI.

Tyler Ferguson improved to 8-1 and became the first pitcher in school history to win 30 career games.
