La Roche College, winners of back-to-back AMCC baseball championship titles, is expected to once again contend for the top spot in the conference, according to league coaches.Penn St. Behrend, looking to reclaim their 2013 AMCC championship title, is expected to finish second, while coaches look for Pitt-Greensburg to fill the third spot.
Mount Aloysius senior outfielder Connor Bowie is the 2016 AMCC Preseason Player of the Year. Bowie led the Mounties in batting average (.358), triples (5), home runs (8), RBI (33), total bases (94), and stolen bases (22) in 2015. His eight home runs set a new school single-season record, while his 22 stolen bases were tops in the conference. After an impressive week of play in April 2015, Bowie was named AMCC Player of the Week and was also selected to the D3baseball.com National Team of the Week. Bowie was crowned the 2015 AMCC Player of the Year and was selected to the All-Mid East Region third team, and was also named to the 16th Annual Canadian Baseball Network All-Canadian Team.
La Roche senior pitcher Tanner Wilt has been tabbed as the Preseason Pitcher of the Year. Wilt led the AMCC in ERA (1.91) and strikeouts per game (12.06) in 2015. He was an AMCC first team selection and was also named to the ABCA All-Mideast Region third team and D3Baseball All-Mideast Region third team. He was a two-time AMCC Player of the Week and finished the 2015 season ranked seventh in the nation in strikeouts per game.
The AMCC tournament will begin with first round play on May 7-8, followed by the championship round May 12-14 at the site of the number one seed. The winner will earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.
