Baseball Hits 5 Home Runs in Split With Grove City

PITTSBURGH, PA -- The La Roche baseball team hit five home runs in their home opener to split with Grove City 12-6 (W), 13-6 (L) on Monday at John Arnold Sr. Memorial Field.

The Redhawks got up early in Game 1 with a big first inning. Luis Navedo led off the inning with a triple down the left field line and two batters later Joe Professori smacked a 2-run homer over the Red Monster in left. The Redhawks added a pair of runs on two errors by the shortstop to end the first with a 4-0 lead.

Starting pitcher Brady Hamer allowed a run in the second but got out of a jam leaving runners stranded at second and third. Navedo got that run back and added one more with a two run homer in the bottom of the second. David Lemley drilled a pitched over the monster for a two run shot in the third and the Redhawks scored another in the inning.

Grove City cut the lead to 11-5 with a three-run homer in the fourth but Ben Herstine belted the Redhawks' fourth home run of the game to go back up seven.

Hamer registered the win in five innings of work while Carson Rebel struck out three in two innings of relief.

Navedo, Professori, Herstine and Lemley all hit home runs.

Herstine hit a second inning lead off double and scored to put La Roche up 1-0 in Game 2. Grove City took the lead with a three run third inning but Luis Navedo came through in the bottom of the inning singling home Tyler Craig after a thirteen pitch at bat.

Grove City put together an eight run fourth inning to go up 11-2. La Roche closed the deficit to eight in the bottom half of the inning and added two more in the fifth, but their rally was cut short by a spectacular catch in centerfield.

Colin Williamson hit a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth but it was not enough as Grove City hung on.

The Redhawks will play their second PAC team in as many days when they travel to W&J tomorrow. The double-header will start tomorrow at 2pm.
