PITTSBURGH, PA – Colin Williamson hit two home runs including his first-career grand slam as the Redhawks cruised to an 18-6 victory over Thiel College on Thursday. La Roche ends Thiel's six game win-streak and extends their own win-streak to nine games.
Colin Williamson trailed in the count 0-2 before drawing a leadoff walk to get things going. Corey Lazor was robbed of an extra base hit in the next at bat but a passed ball and an error allowed Luis Navedo to hit in Williamson.
Thiel was threatening in the third with men on the corners and one out but Nick Tunstall got two straight Tomcats to popout to end the inning. Navedo contributed his second RBI of the game in the bottom of the inning scoring Lazor on a bullet down the left field line.
In the fourth inning, David Lemley hit a line drive home run over the left centerfield wall for his sixth homer of the year. Williamson and Craig also provided RBIs in the inning to put the home squad up 5-0.
Thiel got on the board with four runs after defensive interference negated what would have been an inning ending double-play. Lazor answered in the bottom half of the inning with a leadoff triple and run on a Ben Herstine sacrifice fly. An "inning ending" error allowed six more runs to score including Williamson's grand slam deep over the left-centerfield wall.
Williamson added a two-run blast in the seventh and Herstine one in the eighth as La Roche went on to win 18-6.
Williamson (2), Lemley and Herstine all homered. Williamson also registered a career-high 7 RBIs and 4 runs.
The Redhawks will looks to extend their win-streak on Saturday when they welcome Medaille to campus. La Roche is currently 8-0 against AMCC Conference competition.
