STEUBENVILLE, OH – La Roche men's basketball (12-10, 8-7) dropped their fourth straight game after a 62-58 loss to Franciscan (6-14, 5-10) on Wednesday night.
The Redhawks held Franciscan to just 28% from the field in the first half but the Barons also made 7 three-pointers to take a 22-21 lead into the locker room. Torrin Smith scored 6 first half points and Zaire Redding and Jean Freeman each grabbed 4 boards.
La Roche opened the second half on a 6-2 run but the Barons answered and held a lead for the remainder of the game. The visiting Redhawks got within two in the final minute, but Franciscan made their free throws down the stretch to hold on for the victory.
Andre Flanigan finished with a team-high 17 points while Lionel Perkins and Torrin Smith scored 12 points apiece. David Jackson contributed 8 points to inch closer to 1000 career points and Zaire Redding and Daron Tabron each grabbed 8 boards.
The Redhawks dominated the boards outrebounding Franciscan 41-37 and outscoring them by fifteen on second chance points. However, La Roche shot just 31% from the field and 24 % from beyond the arc.
The men's basketball team falls to 8-7 in the AMCC and remain a game ahead of Mt. Aloysius for the final spot in the conference tournament. Franciscan improves to 5-10 in conference play.
La Roche will travel to Penn State Behrend on Saturday, February 15 for a big conference game. Tip-off is scheduled for 2PM.
