Men's Hoops Falls in AMCC Tournament Quarterfinal

BRADFORD, PA – La Roche men's basketball (14-12) took Pitt-Bradford (16-10) to the wire before dropping a close AMCC Tournament Quarterfinal to the Panthers 73-66 on Tuesday night.

The Redhawks came out on fire and used a 9-0 run to build a 36-21 lead with 5:17 left in the first half. A natural three-point play by Andre Flanigan highlighted the run and Lionel Perkins and Neal McKown each hit contested three pointers.

Pitt-Bradford cut the deficit to six before the half but the Redhawks strong start allowed them to take a 39-33 lead into intermission. Flanigan, Perkins, and McKown all scored 9 first half points while David Jackson grabbed 8 boards. La Roche held a significant edge on the boards (25-13) and hit 17 of 36 shots.

The Redhawks played strong defense in the second half but Pitt-Bradford made some tough shots to get back into it. The Panthers held a 64-58 lead with 3:37 left to play but La Roche answered with four points from Jackson and a bucket by Flanigan.

La Roche needed a defensive stop to stay in it but Bradford's Eric Matheson hit a jumper to go up five points. The Panthers added a pair of free throws to hold on for the win.

Lionel Perkins led all scorers with 18 points including 3 three-pointers while Andre Flanigan added 14 points and 5 boards. David Jackson registered a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds and Neal McKown netted 9 points. Daron Tabron recorded 8 points and 5 rebounds in the loss.

Eric Matheson and Tyler Fantaskey each scored 17 points to lead Pitt-Bradford.

The Redhawks outrebounded Pitt-Bradford 42-30 including 19-5 on the offensive glass. However, the Panthers committed just 9 turnovers and shot 53% from the field, 60% in the second half.

Men's hoops will wait and see if they receive a bid into the ECAC Tournament which will be announced on Monday. The Redhawks made it to the ECAC Tournament Semifinal last season.
