HIRAM, OH – The La Roche men's basketball team opened their season on the road falling to Hiram College 73-62 in a non-conference game on Saturday evening.
The Redhawks overcame a six point deficit to enter the locker room with a 30-29 lead. La Roche made 48% of their shots in the first half and they held Hiram to just 1 of 9 from distance.
Despite tough defense, Hiram began to knock down shots in the second half and they held on for the eleven point win.
Senior Ryan Frantz made 5 three-pointers to finish with a team-high 21 points. Zaire Redding contributed 14 points and 8 rebounds and Arnes Bajgora had 11 points to reach double figures in his first collegiate game. Larry Brodie, Camden Douglas, and Andres Abreu all tallied their first career points for the Redhawks.
La Roche shot the ball well making 24 of 49 buckets and they shot 41% from behind the arc. Hiram however held the turnover advantage and outscored the Redhawks both in the paint and on second chance points.
The Redhawks will look to rebound on Tuesday when they travel to St. Vincent College. Last season the Bearcats won the President's Athletic Conference and went on to play in the NCAA Tournament.
