LATROBE, PA – The men's basketball team (0-2) shot 54% from the field but committed twenty-four turnovers in their 82-61 loss to defending PAC champion St. Vincent College (1-2).
Andres Abreu scored a team-high 15 points and went 4 for 4 from the field. Zaire Redding reached double-digits for the second straight game with 11 points and 7 rebounds while Ryan Frantz, Larry Brodie, Jared Richardson, and Mikal Boykin all scored 5 points. Twelve Redhawks found the scoresheet including Jaewon Mitchell and Isaiah Barber who recorded their first career baskets.
La Roche shot the ball extremely well (22 for 41) but turnovers caught up to them as St. Vincent tallied 37 points off turnovers. The team finished with 27 rebounds, 14 assists, and made 12 of 20 shots from the foul line.
After the game, Junior captain Zaire Redding spoke about the young Redhawk squad. "We're still learning. We didn't do some of the things that our coaches stress."
Redding and the Redhawks return to campus on Saturday for their home opener against Marietta College. The Pioneers have played in the NCAA Tournament two of the past four years.
