PITTSBURGH, PA – The La Roche men's basketball team overcame an eight point second half deficit to force overtime before falling to Hilbert College 75-70. Arnes Bajgora scored a career-high 30 points for the Redhawks.
La Roche shot 44% from the floor in the first half but Hilbert entered the locker room up 35-30 thanks to a 7-2 run. Bajgora provided 12 first half points while seven other Redhawks got on the scoresheet.
Visiting Hilbert extended their lead to eight points in the second half but the Redhawks gradually chipped away at the lead and Andres Abreu tied it at 60-60 with 3:19 left. Bajgora gave the Redhawks a two point lead with time winding down on the shot clock but Hilbert tied at 62-62 with 1:11 left. The Redhawks and Hawks traded baskets inside of a minute and entered overtime tied at 64-64.
Bajgora and Ryan Frantz scored baskets in overtime but Hilbert came away with the five point victory.
Bajgora led all scorers with 30 points (10 of 15) while Zaire Redding finished with his third double-double of the season (15 points, 10 rebounds). Larry Brodie had 4 steals and Andres Abreu 6 rebounds in the loss.
The Redhawks shot 46% (27 of 59) on the game and won the rebounding battle 34-26.
La Roche returns to the Fitness Center tomorrow to host Medaille College. Medaille is 4-1 in conference and coming off an 82-79 win over Pitt-Greensburg.
