STEUBENVILLE, OH – The La Roche men's basketball team could not hold a three point halftime lead, falling to Franciscan University 61-56 in AMCC Wednesday night action.
The Redhawks dominated the glass in the first half to jump out to a 9-1 lead and enter intermission up 26-23.
Franciscan responded with an 8-0 run to start the second half but tough inside play helped La Roche get back into the game where they tied it at 55-55 with 1:06 left. The Redhawks had a chance to tie it again after a Baron's jumper, but La Roche made just 1 of 2 free throws and Franciscan held on for the close win.
Arnes Bajgora (16 points, 5 rebounds) and Zaire Redding (11 points, 5 rebounds) paced the Redhawks on the scoresheet while Dion Etheridge (6 rebounds) led La Roche in rebounds and Cam Douglas (3 assists) in assists.
La Roche won the rebounding battle (30-18) and hit one more field goal (21-20), but the game really came down to three-pointers where Franciscan held a significant advantage.
The Redhawks will look to end the season with a win when they travel to Medaille College on Saturday. The Mavericks will clinch an AMCC Tournament bye with a victory.
