Men's Basketball Releases 2015-16 Schedule, Roster

Head Coach Hermie Carmichael has released his upcoming schedule and roster for the 2015-2016 men's basketball season as they look to refocus and retool for both a tough slate of opponents and a young committed group. Carmichael is excited about the program's progressive approach "we need to not dwell on last season but we also must learn from it; we as a group have learned a lot."

The schedule provides a daunting non-conference schedule and the customary challenges of an AMCC Conference slate. The team will be on the road for the first four games starting at Division 1 Longwood University (VA) on Monday, November 16 where the young Redhawks will experience a high level environment against the Lancers. A trip down to Marietta, Ohio for the Marietta Shrine Tournament is highlighted by an opening round game against a quality opponent in Catholic University on November 20. They will visit Thiel College on November 23 at 7pm to wrap up a gauntlet of road tests to start the year.

Coach Carmichael and the team will open at the Kerr Fitness Center after Thanksgiving by welcoming John Carrol University on November 28 at 3pm. "We bring back eight guys who have experience and have really worked hard this offseason. They have welcomed our new freshmen and are helping to make the transition easier for them." The experience gained from the veteran returners who endured multiple close calls last year will be challenged again as the Redhawks open AMCC Conference play on the road against Penn St Altoona and Penn St Behrend in early December.

The entire coaching staff spent much of the off season looking at the culture and values the program must exude to earn victories for the coming season.  Carmichael explains "Our staff and players have put a lot of thought into the program's culture. I believe that is where winning programs gain an edge, our core values need to be our strength on and off the court." The young Redhawks are going to need this foundation as other highlights for the season's schedule include a non-conference home game vs Pittsburgh rival Carnegie Mellon on January 4 at 7pm, our annual alumni game on Saturday, January 23 vs Penn St Behrend, and a visit from defending AMCC Champion Medaille College to wrap up the season on February 20.

Three seniors Jared Richardson, Torin Smith, and Isiah Barber will be asked to lead the Redhawks and help the coaching staff implement this refocused approach. Juniors Evan Bonnaure, Andy Abreau, sophomore and reigning  AMCC freshmen of the year Arnes Bajgora, as well as Dion Etheridge and Cam Douglas will aide in the leadership efforts and help six new Redhawks absorb the traditions of the program. "This group of six freshmen brings great character to this team and adds tremendous versatility." Carmichael says. The six newest Redhawks include Zach Gould, Fred Schwendler, Rayquan Phifer, Darrell Baron, Vince LeGrande, and Ryan Norkus.
