The Men's Basketball team made a valiant effort in their home opener at the Kerr Fitness Center, but ultimately loss to John Carroll 87-83. The home court aided the Redhawks to their best offensive output of the early season shooting 42% (13/31) from behind the three point arc. A strong shooting effort and an emphasis on transition defense back into an extended zone forced a hot shooting John Carroll, who was third in the country in Division III in scoring, into a dismal 14% (3/21) from three, keeping the game close for the entire 40 minutes.
Senior Captain Torin Smith caught fire in the first half as three shots from deep kept the home crowd into the game. Doug Caputo for the visiting Blue Streaks controlled the middle of the paint and had some key offensive rebounds allowing John Carroll to take a lead into halftime 41-39.
Throughout the final twenty minutes the visitors held onto to a slim lead as neither team was able to put together any sort of run. In the end, John Carroll was able to hang on in a well fought post-Thanksgiving home contest for the Redhawks. Freshmen Zach Gould lead an unselfish charge late in his first career game at home finishing with 7 points and 7 assists to only one turnover. Evan Bonnaure and Arnes Bagjora were the recipients of quality team play as Bonnaure finished with 24 points on (6-10) shooting from three. Bajgora continues to perform well all over the floor finishing with 22 points and 4 rebounds.
The Redhawks start AMCC Conference play in their next game when they travel to Penn State Altoona on Weds Dec 2, 2015. Game time is set for 6pm.
