PITTSBURGH, PA – The men's basketball team remained undefeated in the AMCC Conference after defeating Mt. Aloysius 91-75 on Wednesday evening. Five Redhawks scored in double-figures and La Roche outrebounded the visitors by twenty-five.
The Redhawks ended the half on an 11-0 run to enter the lockeroom with a 51-40 lead. La Roche built the lead on the back of an extremely effective offensive gameplan. They shot over 50% from the floor and cleaned up their misses with twelve points on second chance points. Andy Abreu had his strongest half to date with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Ray Quan Phifer and Torin Smith forced the Mounties to guard the perimeter with two three-pointers each.
The Mounties got within eight points early in the second but La Roche continued to attack the offensive end to build on their lead. The Redhawks were dominant on the boards picking up fifteen more rebounds and scoring another nine points off of rebounds.
Abreu finished with a game-high 18 points (7 for 10) and 8 rebounds. All twelve of Torin Smith's 12 points came off of three-pointers with Evan Bonnaure contributing 11 points. Freshmen Ray Quan Phifer and Darrell Brown each had 10 points.
La Roche hit 47% of their field goals and assisted on 21 of them.
The men's basketball team will attempt to improve to 4-0 in conference on Saturday when they host D'Youville. The Spartans are 0-2 in conference falling to Penn State Behrend and Pitt-Greensburg.
