CRESSON, PA – The men's basketball team returned to their winning ways after going on the road to defeat Mt. Aloysius 86-76. The Redhawks used a 10-0 second half run to break open a close game and earn their fourth win in the past five games. They improve to 8-4 in the AMCC Conference.
La Roche struggled early and trailed 28-23 but Darrell Barron caught fire just before the half. Barron had 7 points, a rebound and an assist in the half's final two minutes to help the Redhawks take a 32-31 halftime lead. Arnes Bajgora contributed 10 points and 4 rebounds and Barron 9 points and 4 rebounds. La Roche doubled up on Mt. Aloysius edging them in rebounds 24-12.
The Redhawks opened the second half with five straight points including a deep three-pointer by Zack Gould. Mt. Aloysius responded scoring 10 of the next 12 points but La Roche followed with their 10-0 run and cruised from there. Six different Redhawks scored points over the course of the run and La Roche held the Mounties to just two field goals in a seven minute span.
Barron had a career-high 24 points including 15 in the second half. Bajgora finished just a rebound shy of a double-double with 17 points and 9 rebounds while Evan Bonnaure added 11 points and a pair of threes. Dion Etheridge had a strong game with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 4 steals.
La Roche dominated the glass and outrebounded Mt. Aloysius 46-27. They held a minor shooting edge hitting 27 of 59 field goals to Mt. Aloysius' 24 of 58. The Redhawks also hit 26 of 37 free throws.
The men's basketball team will look to avenge their December 12 loss when they travel to D'Youville on Saturday. The Spartans have lost three straight.
