PITTSBURGH, PA – The Redhawks lost for just the second time in the past seven games after falling to Hilbert College 91-77 on Saturday at the Kerr Fitness Center. La Roche falls three games behind Hilbert with just four games left on the schedule.
Jared Richardson capped a 14-4 La Roche run with a three-pointer in transition and a runner to put the home squad up 28-17 with 7:49 left in the first. The Redhawks' largest lead (13 points) came on a Zach Gould three-pointer but Hilbert closed the half on a 15-3 run to enter intermission down just 40-39. Richardson, Ryan Norkus, Arnes Bajgora and Andy Abreu all had 7 points to lead the Redhawks. La Roche shot 55% (17 of 31) from the field compared to Hilbert's 46% (16 for 35).
La Roche kept it close for the first ten minutes of the second half. Evan Bonnaure and Andy Abreu provided big three-pointers to help the Redhawks take a 56-53 lead, but Hilbert owned the last ten minutes to earn the victory.
Bajogora had 16 points and 11 rebounds to record his second double-double of the season. Abreu registered 12 points while Phifer finished with 10 points, 3 assists and 3 steals. Gould contributed 9 points while Bonnaure and Norkus had 8 points apiece.
The Redhawks return to action on Wednesday when they host Pitt-Greensburg in another big conference game. Greensburg sits 1.5 games ahead of La Roche.
