PITTSBURGH, PA – La Roche picked up a big conference win on Wednesday night defeating Pitt-Greensburg 84-71 to get within one game of the Panthers. The Redhawks can finish anywhere between third and fifth in the AMCC conference standings.
The Redhawks held Pitt-Greensburg to just over 10% shooting in the first eight minutes to build a 17-4 lead. The Panthers put together a comeback and got within two but La Roche closed the half on a 15-4 run and entered intermission up 49-37. The Redhawks shot over 50% in the first with Arnes Bajgora (13 points) and Ray Quan Phifer (11 points) leading the way.
La Roche was never threatened in the second half and cruised to the big victory. They led by as many as twenty points and limited Greensburg to just 40% from the floor and 10% from long range.
The Redhawks held Greensburg to fifteen points under their season average (83.6 ppg). On the other end of the court they were extremely efficient shooting 49% and 39% from distance. La Roche also hit 86% of their shots from the charity stripe.
Bajgora registered a double-double (19 points, 10 rebounds) while Phifer added 17 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals.
The men's basketball team will travel to Pitt-Bradford on Saturday for their final road game of the season. The Redhawks held on to beat Bradford 73-70 on January 16.
