Pittsburgh, PA- The La Roche Men's Basketball Team is preparing for a solid 2016-2017 season, coming back from an already big AMCC run last year. On the eve of the start of the season, the Redhawks are focusing on one goal: an AMCC Championship. With last year's overall record being 12-14 and having a conference record of 12-6, the men are excited to build on a hopeful standout season.
A roster made up of 15 men, the Redhawks are a young squad made up of unique talent and experienced leadership. The 2016-2017 team is led by senior captains Evan Bonnaure and Andy Abreu as they continue to preach a message of working hard together into each of the newcomers. With the loss of key players from last season, the six new faces joining the Redhawks team are expected to bring skill that can connect with the work ethic that is stressed among each of the returning players.
All recruits for this season are natives of Pennsylvania and Ohio, bringing a mix of both strength and height to the court.
2016 AMCC Coach of the Year Hermie Carmichael is ready to lead the Redhawks on to another successful season. Joining him, AMCC All- Conference Second Teamer, Arnes Bajgora, strives to continue being a force for the Redhawks both scoring and on the boards. The Redhawks ranked among the top defensive and rebounding teams in the league last season.
As the Redhawks look to rebuild, their motivation this season comes from their hard fought 67-61 AMCC Quarterfinal loss to Pitt Bradford last year.
La Roche will get a fresh start in their season opener on Tuesday, November 15th at Marietta. They follow with a difficult non-conference schedule and games against Carnegie Mellon, Capital, Hiram and John Carroll.
The Men's Basketball team will open their conference schedule by hosting Pitt-Bradford on Saturday, December 3. They follow with a three game road trip to Westminster, Hilbert and Medaille.
The majority of the Redhawks conference games are played throughout the month of January, including back to back games against conference rivals Penn State Behrend and Pitt Bradford.
The Redhawks conclude the regular season on the road against D'Youville, Saturday, February 18th.
With the outstanding message of "family" committed into the minds of each La Roche men's basketball player, the Redhawks are set on a goal of becoming a top contender in the AMCC this year.
