On November 3, members of the La Roche College men's basketball team joined a group of Pine Richland Middle Schoolers for Literacy Day. The idea of Literacy Day was to help students realize that strong literacy skills will positively impact their futures.
The men's basketball team helped decorate fifteen blankets and over one hundred letters of gratitude to veterans living at St. Barnabas/The Arbors. They spent three early morning hours helping the middle schoolers plan the project and draft the words of thanks.
In addition to the work, they also shared valuable insight with the Pine Richland students regarding the demands of being a student athlete. Each shared strategies regarding time management and preparing for college.
The highlight for both the men's basketball team and the middle schoolers was the time spent having fun. They led every middle school child on the team through shooting games in the gym. They gave out RAM Rewards for good effort and some of the middle schoolers won books.
The men's basketball team spoke glowingly about the event and hope to be involved again next year.
