La Roche Gets Elusive Win at Hilbert, Defeat Hawks in 89-87 OT Thriller

HAMBURG, NY -- Dion Etheridge hit a jumper with four seconds left in regulation and the Redhawks pulled out a rare 89-87 OT win at Hilbert. La Roche had lost 8 of their previous 9 against Hilbert but are now 3-0 in the AMCC and welcome 3-0 Medaille to campus next Saturday.

The Redhawks have opened games on a tear all season long and today was no exception. La Roche built a ten point lead halfway through the first half and entered intermission ahead 34-28.
Arnes Bajgora played one of his most efficient halfs of the season hitting 7 of 10 shots and scoring 14 points.

The home Hawks were not about to go down without a fight and they tied it up less than five minutes into the second half. Hilbert jumped in front 72-63 and it looked like they might scoot away with victory but the Redhawks fought back. La Roche made every field goal they attempted in the final four minutes and Hilbert went cold from the field and free throw line.

Kirkland Ottey missed a free throw with ten seconds left and Zach Gould found Etheridge to send it into OT.

It was the fourth OT game between the two squads in the past six years. The Redhawks jumped ahead by six but Ottey kept Hilbert in the game with a pair of three-pointers. La Roche was clinging to an 89-87 lead when it missed a free throw, but Ottey's three-point attempt at the buzzer came up short in the thrilling Redhawk win.

Five Redhawks reached double figures including Bajgora who had 23 points (11 of 15). Gould (13 points), Trell Thomas (12 points), Etheridge (11 points) and Evan Bonnaure (11 points) also reached double figures.

Hilbert's Ottey scored 29 in the losing effort.

Tip-off for the Medaille game is 4pm. They are coming off a victory against Penn State Altoona.
