Men's Basketball Keeps Pace in AMCC After Beating Hilbert 92-74

PITTSBURGH, PA -- The La Roche men's basketball team continued to keep pace atop the AMCC Conference after defeating Hilbert 92-74 on Saturday evening. Six Redhawks scored in double figures including Arnes Bajgora and Andy Abreu who each had 16.

Hilbert jumped out to an early lead thanks to an incredible performance by Jalen Smith. Smith hit 3 three-pointers and scored 15 of the Hilbert's first 19 points as the Hawks built a 19-12 lead. Hilbert continued to have the hot hand but La Roche played terrific team basketball to get back into it.

The Redhawks caught Hilbert at around the seven minute mark. They closed the half on a 6-0 run and entered intermission ahead 51-41. Both teams shot the ball incredibly well in the first half. Hilbert shot 58% and hit a ridiculous 8 of 11 shots from 3-point range. Not to be outdone, the Redhawks hit 57% of their shots and drained 9 of 14 shots from distance.

La Roche extended their lead to as many as twenty-one points in the second half. It looked like they were going to run away with it but Hilbert crept back into competition. A three-pointer got the Hawks within seven with eleven minutes to play. However, the Redhawks responded and cruised over the final ten minutes.

Abreu (16 points), Bajgora (16 points), RayQuan Phifer (15 points), Evan Bonnaure (13 points), Trell Thomas (11 points) and Zach Gould (10 points) all scored in double figures.

La Roche hit 14 of 23 three-pointers and shot 49% from the field.
