PITTSBURGH, PA – The La Roche men's basketball team picked up their third straight AMCC Conference win after defeating Mt. Aloysius 78-44. The victory sets up a huge game on Saturday as the Redhawks head up to Medaille for the AMCC Game of the Week.
The Redhawks were terrific on both sides of the ball and built a 43-17 first half lead. Mt. Aloysius scored the game's first five points but La Roche answered with a 22-2 run and never looked back. Evan Bonnaure sparked the run making all three free throws after getting fouled on a shot beyond the arc. The half was also highlighted by an Arnes Bajgora and-1 and a Rayquan Phifer steal and coast-to-coast dunk.
La Roche hit 16 of 37 field goals while holding the Mounties to just 22% from the floor. The Redhawks also hit 6 of 13 three-pointers. Bonnaure scored 9 first half points and Ryan Norkus pulled down 5 rebounds.
Mt. Aloysius's struggles from the floor continued into the second half. They hit just two buckets over the first ten minutes while the Redhawks extended their lead. La Roche forced fourteen second half turnovers as they cruised to the big win.
Every Redhawk got on the statsheet and eleven scored points. Zach Gould, Evan Bonnaure and Darius Lawrence all scored 11 points, while Arnes Bajgora added ten. Ryan Norkus was terrific on the boards, bringing down 9 including 5 on the offensive side. Rayquan Phifer intercepted 6 passes and Bonnaure dished out 5 assists.
The Redhawks forced twenty-nine Mt. Aloysius turnovers and outrebounded them 46-38.
La Roche will travel to Medaille on Saturday for the AMCC Game of the Week. Both teams are tied atop the AMCC Conference with an 11-2 record.
