Medaille Upends Redhawks in AMCC Championship Game

Medaille College earned their fifth AMCC men's basketball championship today, defeating La Roche College, 74-58, to advance to the NCAA Division III tournament.

The top seeded Mavericks led for a majoirty of the game. They built a 15 point first half lead and led by as many as 21 points in the second half. The #3 seeded Redhawks played significantly better over the final twenty minutes, scoring 35 points to Medaille's 36, but they could not overcome an 8-of-30 field goal effort.

La Roche got a double-double contribution from Andy Abreu (12 points, 13 boards), while Zach Gould, Ray Quan Phifer and Trell Thomas all chipped in 13 points.

Medaille was paced by a 14 point, 12 rebound effort from Mike Hollenbeck and another 24 points from Meghale Ford.  Both were named to the all-tournament team.  Also impacting the boxscore were Johnathan Belton (10 points, 5 assists, 4 steals) and Justice Fagan (10 points, 3 assists).

Ray Quan Phifer and Evan Bonnaure were named to the AMCC All-Tournament Team. Phifer averaged 16.5 points and 5.5 rebounds over two games.

Medaille's first round opponent will be announced Monday afternoon.  The AMCC all-conference team and award winners will be released on Wednesday.
