Lacrosse Outshoots W&J But Falls to the Presidents 12-8
PITTSBURGH, PA – La Roche Lacrosse (2-7) out shot Washington & Jefferson (5-8) by eleven and picked up eight more ground balls but fell to the Presidents 12-8.
W&J took a 2-0 lead with goals just fifteen seconds apart in the first quarter but Crawford Healey answered with a tally at the 4:37 mark of the first quarter. The Presidents scored two more in the first and another in the second but Dustin Reykdal found the back of the net on the man up and Mike DiMarco netted a goal on a feed from Jon Monahan to go into halftime down 5-3.
W&J's Casey Smallwood scored 55 seconds into the second half to go up 6-3 before Bryce Wells and Reykdal cut the deficit to just one. However, the Presidents scored twice more in the third quarter and held on for the 12-8 victory.
Reykdal registered the hat trick and added an assist and DiMarco finished with two goals. Wells, Healey, and Jean Thouin all produced goals while Monahan had an assist.
Thouin won 9 of 16 faceoffs and registered 6 ground balls. Wells collected 5 ground balls and Braden Sparks and Mike Merchant each had 4. Garrett Fraser forced 2 turnovers and goalkeeper Eugene LaBorde made 14 saves.
La Roche Lacrosse will travel to Thiel College on April 9 to take on the Tomcats. The Redhawks lead the all-time series 2-1.
