Luffey's PK Tops Pitt-Greensburg in Important Conference Game
GREENSBURG, PA – Ryan Luffey netted two goals, including a game winning penalty-kick in the sixty-seventh minute to lift La Roche (10-4-1, 4-2-1) to a 3-2 win over Pitt-Greensburg (5-9-1, 3-4) in an important conference game on Wednesday.
Luffey's first tally came in the third minute when he buried a long throw from Robert Fraino. The goal gave La Roche a one goal lead before Pitt-Greensburg answered two minutes later to tie it at 1-1.
La Roche Athlete of the Week, Phil Ross, took back the lead in the seventeenth minute when he controlled a rebound and blasted it past the Bobcats goalkeeper. The goal was Ross' third in the past two games and fifth this season.
Pitt-Greensburg evened it again early in the second half before Luffey's heroics ended it. A Bobcat defender was shown a red card for illegal handling the ball in the box which led to Luffey's penalty kick.
La Roche outshot the host Bobcats 16-7 and held an 11-5 advantage in corner kicks.
The Redhawks will travel to AMCC Conference leading Medaille College on Saturday. Medaille is undefeated in-conference and comes into the contest winners of eleven straight.
