Men's Soccer Eagerly Awaits Start of 2012 Season

The 2012 La Roche College Redhawks men's soccer team begins the season with great anticipation and expectation. They are seeking to improve on last season's fifth place regular season finish (4-4-1) in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. The Redhawks have been picked to finish fourth in the preseason coaches' poll.

La Roche returns twenty-two players from last season's squad including three seniors; Michael Brunozzi (Hempfield), Mark D'Uva (Seton LaSalle), and Gilbert Uwineza (Kigali Institute, Rwanda), who will lead the Redhawks. The junior class includes fourteen players; led by Yousef Barqawi, Tyler Irwin and Chad Trozzi, this group has been the backbone of the Redhawks resurgence. Matt Bopp, Matt Domiano, Andy Eisenbarth, Robert Fraino, Dan Gelzhiser, Adam Getty, Kurt Hoover, Jonathan Mancuso, Matt McAwley, and Nick Sabol round out the upperclassmen.

Also returning are several sophomores who registered impressive first years. Bryan Weimerskirch tied the La Roche single season points record with 33 on his way to being named AMCC Newcomer of the Year, Second team All-Conference and ECAC Rookie of the Year. Ryan Luffey was a First team All-Conference selection and set the school record for assists with 12. Phil Ross started every game in a stellar first year; also returning are Josh Casey and Freddie Jones.

La Roche is excited and welcome ten incoming freshman to the team this season; Tyler Balzer (Seton LaSalle), Gosha Hendricks (Bishop Canevin), Dave Hidinger (Freeport), Cody Hutchinson (Brashear), Greg Garbera (Our Lady Sacred Heart), Kevin Kowalsky (Ambridge), Andrew Rice (Beaver Local, OH), Zach Williams (Beaver Local, OH), and Nick Work (Avonworth).

Everyone associated with La Roche College men's soccer is excited for another outstanding season!
