Lady Redhawks Cruise in Sweep of Franciscan

PITTSBURGH, PA – The Lady Redhawks (13-11, 9-1) allowed only seven hits in two games as they swept Franciscan University (1-21, 0-12) for the fourth consecutive year 9-0, 9-1 in an AMCC Conference Game.

Starting pitcher, Kara Jo Egelsky (8-4, 2.84), tossed a three-hit shutout to get the game one win. She struck out nine Barons to record her seventh complete game of the season.

Catcher Ashley Balzer led the Lady Redhawks with two hits and also scored two runs and drove in another. Right fielder Chelsea Faynor had a game-high four RBI and designated hitter Kelsey Deem added two runs batted in. Left fielder Cara Giannandrea registered an RBI triple in the win.

Pitcher Samantha Colton (1-2, 12.10) recorded her second career start in the game two win. Colton threw four shutout innings allowing only four baserunners while striking out five batters. Deanna Tritinger pitched an inning of relief and allowed the only run of the game.

Designated hitter Kelsey Deem went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Amber Steenbeke recorded three RBI and Amanda Varhula and Valerie O'Neal scored two runs apiece.

The Lady Redhawks will host D'Youville College on Saturday, April 16 at 1:00PM in an AMCC Conference at the La Roche Softball Field.
