PITTSBURGH, PA – Alex Spain recorded 4 hits and added 2 RBI in La Roche Softball's (11-11, 4-6) double-header loss to Penn State Altoona (27-5, 12-2) 9-5, 8-5 in AMCC Conference action on Tuesday.
Kim McLay and Alex Spain scored first inning runs as the Lady Redhawks struck first in Game 1. La Roche added runs in the fifth and sixth innings but a big second inning guided the visiting Lions to the win.
Lea Kronz went 2 for 4 with a triple, an RBI, and a run scored. Alex Spain and Kayle Zozos each posted a double, RBI, and scored a run, and Jennifer Lentz reached base 3 times. Deanna Tritinger threw all seven innings and allowed 8 runs on 11 hits in the loss.
La Roche stranded the tying run on first base in the bottom of the seventh inning to end Game 2. Kaylee Zozos led the Lady Redhawks on offense with a two-RBI double and a run scored and Kim McLay had an RBI-double and scored twice. Ashley Crnkovich drew two walks and scored twice and Jennifer Lentz finished with 2 hits. Mareya Justice allowed 9 runs (6 earned runs) in 7 innings to record the loss.
La Roche Softball will travel to Penn State Behrend on Saturday to take on the AMCC Conference leading Lions. Penn State Behrend is coming off a double-header sweep of Pitt-Greensburg.
