Walk-Off Single Earns Lady Redhawks Double-Header Split

PITTSBURGH, PA – Alex Spain hit an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning of Game 1 as the Lady Redhawks (4-12) earned a double-header split with Chatham University (7-15) 5-4 (W), 9-3 (L) on Monday afternoon.

Jodi Walsh gave the Lady Redhawks a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning of Game 1 with a 2-out RBI single to score Spain. Chatham answered with 2 runs in the top half of the third inning and another on an error in the top half of the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.

Chatham's Elizabeth Doman tallied their fourth run of the ballgame on a sacrifice fly and two batters later the Cougars had runners at first and third, but Nicole Fievet limited the damage with a terrific throw from left field to catch Abby Maier attempting to score from third.

The Lady Redhawks rallied with five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to overcome the 4-1 deficit and win. Fievet sparked the rally when she reached base on an error and Walsh followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Chatham's third baseman, Ashley Lamb, overthrew first base to load the bases and Kim McLay flied out to centerfield to score Walsh. The next batter Kaylee Zozos got aboard on an error which scored Kaliegh Branson and Spain smacked a 2-out 0-2 pitch to right field to win the game.

Walsh and Tritinger each registered 2 hits and Walsh, Tritinger, and McLay contributed RBIs. Walsh, Spain, Fievet, Alex Bauer, and Jennifer Lentz scored runs for La Roche.

Starting pitcher Ashley DeVito tossed 5 innings and allowed just 1 earned run on 5 hits while Kaylee Girdwood threw 2 scoreless innings to record the win.

Zozos hit a 2 RBI triple in the Game 2 loss.

The Lady Redhawks will travel to Penn State Altoona on Wednesday for an AMCC Conference game. The Lions are currently 11-5 and are coming off a double-header sweep of Pitt-Greensburg on Monday.
