Mt. Aloysius Edges Lady Redhawks in AMCC Double-Header

CRESSON, PA – La Roche Softball (5-23, 3-12) fell to Mt. Aloysius (20-10, 8-7) 12-6, 10-2 in an AMCC Conference game on Thursday night.

La Roche took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of Game 1. Kim McLay and Kaylee Zozos reached base before Spain doubled home McLay for a 1-0 advantage. Two batters later Zozos scored on an error by the Mt. Aloysius catcher to take a two run lead.

The Mounties scored three runs in the second inning and two more in the third but La Roche responded with two of their own in the bottom of the third. Deanna Tritinger led off the inning with a walk and Alex Bauer followed with a singled to advance Tritinger to second base. Two batters later McLay ripped a double into right field to cut the deficit to just one run.

The Lady Redhawks scored a run each in the fifth and sixth innings but could not hold on falling 12-6 in seven innings.

McLay went 1 for 3 with 2 RBI and a run and Zozos registered 2 hits, a run and RBI. Spain had an RBI double and Bauer, Lea Kronz, Kaliegh Branson, and Katlyn Whitmore scored runs.

La Roche fell in the late game 10-2.

Zozos, Spain, and Haluska registered 2 hits apiece. Spain had an RBI single and Jodi Walsh and Haluska scored runs. Kronz, Walsh, and Jennifer Lentz notched a walk and hit in the loss.

La Roche Softball will return to action on Saturday when they host D'Youville College on Senior Day. The Spartans won the 2011 AMCC Championship.
