WAYNESBURG, PA -- The La Roche softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games falling to Waynesburg 8-4, 9-2 on Thursday afternoon.
Game 1:The Redhawks took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first but were forced to play catchup after giving up four runs in the bottom of the inning. Savannah Leonard provided the early scoring singling in Kara Sainato and Kelsey Bayer.
Waynesburg added another four runs in the fourth inning to take a commanding 8-2 lead. The Redhawks got one back in the sixth on a Leonard RBI single and another in the seventh on a Sainato sac fly.
Leonard had 2 hits and 3 RBIs. Sainato scored twice.
Game 2:The first three Lady Redhawks reached base and Savannah Leonard followed with a 2-run double. Waynesburg answered with an RBI single and a 2-run error in the bottom of the inning.
La Roche stranded a runner at second in the second inning and Waynesburg added another run for a 4-2 lead.
Waynesburg took control with five runs in the fourth inning. The Yellow Jackets used six consecutive 2-out hits including a pair of doubles. The Redhawks stranded runners at second and third in the fifth. Kaylee Grassmyer held Waynesburg scoreless over the final two innings.
