PITTSBURGH, PA – The Lady Redhawks (16-4, 13-0) extended their win-streak to six games with a 56-42 win over Penn State Behrend (14-4, 10-3) in an important AMCC Conference game on Saturday. The victory keeps the Lady Redhawks perfect in conference play and is their twenty-sixth straight win against AMCC opponents.
La Roche led by as many as seven points late in the first half before the visiting Lions went on a 9-2 run to end the half tied at 21-21.
The Lady Redhawks regrouped and went on an 8-0 run to start the second half. Casie Cygan led the charge with four points and Chloe' Stewart grabbed two boards. La Roche held Penn State Behrend to 29% shooting in the second half and allowed only seven buckets.
Casie Cygan led all scorers with 19 points and went 7 for 7 on free throws. Jessica Pitts and Ariel Green scored 9 points each and Pitts added 7 boards and 4 steals. Ja'Nia McPhatter recorded 6 steals and 5 rebounds in the win.
The Lady Redhawks held the AMCC Conference's best offense to their second lowest point total of the season (La Roche held Penn State Behrend to 39 points on December 10) and forced the Lions into a season-high 27 turnovers. La Roche also held Penn State Behrend to just 36% shooting.
The Lady Redhawks can clinch a bye in the AMCC Conference Tournament with a win on Wednesday against Penn State Altoona and a loss by Penn State Behrend. Tip-off is set for 8:00 at the Kerr Fitness Center.
