Lady Redhawks are AMCC Conference Champions

PITTSBURGH, PA – The Lady Redhawks (22-5) are AMCC Conference Champions for the second straight year after beating Medaille College (22-5) 55-49 to clinch an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. It is the second straight year that La Roche has beaten the Mavericks in the AMCC Championship Game.

La Roche led 30-22 at halftime and by as many as 13 points midway through the second half thanks to a stifling full court press. The Lady Redhawks, who rank second nationally in takeaways and third nationally in giveaways, finished the game with a turnover margin of plus twenty-five.

Medaille made a late run cutting La Roche's lead to 4 points with just 57 seconds left, but Jessica Pitts and Casie Cygan each hit a free throw to put the game away.

Jessica Pitts led La Roche with 17 points, 7 rebounds and a career-high 8 steals. Casie Cygan scored 11 points and Amanda Garland and Ariel Green added 9 points apiece. Green and Chloe' Stewart finished with 5 steals each and Cygan finished with 4 steals.

The Lady Redhawks recorded their third most steals this season with 25 steals and forced 33 turnovers while registering just 8 giveaways. La Roche also outscored the Mavericks 30-7 off of turnovers.

La Roche women's basketball returns to action on Friday, March 2, 2012 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Lady Redhawks will find their seeding and opponent on Monday at 2:30PM.
