Lady Redhawks Take Mt. Union to Brink Before Falling in NCAA Tournament First Round

ALLIANCE, PA – The Lady Redhawks (22-6) fought valiantly and took #6 Mt. Union (27-1) to the brink before falling to the host Purple Raiders 73-63 in a NCAA Tournament First-Round matchup.

After starting the game on a 0-7 shooting skid and trailing 8-0, the Lady Redhawks fought back to take a 23-18 lead. Ariel Green led the swing with 7 points and 3 rebounds and Chloe' Stewart contributed stellar defense with 3 steals. La Roche and Mt. Union continued to trade baskets for the remainder of the first half with Mt. Union entering intermission with a five point advantage.

The Purple Raiders opened the second half on a 9-2 run and La Roche fell behind by 15 points with 13:55 left to play before working their way back into it with an impressive full court defense. Green drained a long three-pointer to cut the deficit to 65-62 with 2:46 left to play, but Mt. Union made their foul shots to put the game away.

Senior guard, Ariel Green, led La Roche with 17 points on 7 of 9 shooting and sophomore center, Jessica Pitts, added 16 points and 8 rebounds. Senior guard, Chloe' Stewart, registered 11 points, 8 boards, 5 assists, and 4 steals for the Lady Redhawks.

Despite the loss, La Roche held Mt. Union (#4 nationally in 3-point percentage) to just 25% from behind the arc and four 3-pointers shy of their average.
