Coach Benton Makes Jump to Division I St. Francis

Former La Roche College women's basketball head coach Eddie Benton has been selected as an assistant at NCAA Division I St. Francis University women's basketball.

Benton took over the La Roche program in 2004 and guided the Lady Redhawks to two NCAA Tournament appearances and two AMCC Conference Championships. He was twice named the AMCC Coach of the Year and finishes his career as the program's all-time leader in wins.

"We are very proud of what Coach Benton accomplished during his tenure here at La Roche College. He worked diligently at putting together a championship basketball program and the successes that our women's program enjoyed over the past few years were a direct result of Coach Benton's efforts. While we are saddened to lose Coach Benton, we wish him the very best as he takes on his position at St. Francis University".

Benton's 2010-11 and 2011-12 teams were among the most successful in AMCC Conference history. Over the two year stretch the Lady Redhawks went 45-10 overall and 33-3 in conference play while winning the AMCC Conference Championship both seasons.

More than anything, Coach Benton will remember the relationships he built at La Roche. "La Roche was a tremendous experience for me. Leaving was one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make because I built a great rapport with my players and co-workers. I will always be thankful to La Roche".
