Lady Redhawks Predicted to Repeat as AMCC Champions

The La Roche women's basketball team was chosen to repeat as AMCC champions for the third straight season in the 2012-2013 coaches poll released today.

The two-time defending AMCC champions clinched their second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and finished last season with a 22-6 overall record and a school-best 17 wins in conference. The Lady Redhawks also ranked among the nation's best in numerous offensive and defensive categories.

Head coach Kamela Gissendanner takes over a veteran team returning three starters including last season's AMCC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in Jessica Pitts. Pitts was the first Lady Redhawk to win player of the year honors while averaging 12.4 ppg, 7.9 rpg, and leading the league with 3.3 spg.

Casie Cygan was named a Preseason Player to Watch after garnering AMCC Third Team All-Conference honors and averaging 11.5 ppg last season. She also finished the year ranked second in the conference in three-point field goals.

 Amanda Garland, a starter last season, finished second in the conference in steals per game (2.9 spg), sixth in blocks per game (0.7 bpg), and averaged 6.7 ppg. Veterans Leslie McPherson and LaShauna Brothers also figure to see extended playing time after provided key sparks off the bench last season.

La Roche women's basketball eagerly awaits the start of their season on Friday, November 16 when they host Thiel College in the La Roche College Tip-Off Tournament.
