BUFFALO, NY – La Roche Women's Basketball (7-1, 3-0) outscored Medaille (4-3, 2-1) by 12 points in the second half to overcome a halftime deficit and beat the host Mavericks 73-64 in a rematch of last year's AMCC Conference Championship Game.
The Lady Redhawks trailed 55-54 with 9:51 left before embarking on an 11-0 run. All eleven points were scored on lay-ups inside including two each by Jessica Pitts and Amanda Garland. Medaille came within three points with 4:30 remaining but La Roche held them to just one field goal down the stretch to preserve the win.
LaShauna Brothers netted a career-high 23 points on 11 of 18 shooting and Casie Cygan scored 15 points including a perfect 8 for 8 from the free throw line. Jessica Pitts followed her triple-double performance on Wednesday with 21 points, 7 boards and 5 steals, and Leslie McPherson contributed 8 assists and 4 steals.
La Roche hit just 2 three-pointers, but outscored the Mavericks 34-22 in the paint and won the battle on the glass. The Lady Redhawks assisted on 23 of 29 field goals attempts and forced 23 Medaille Turnovers.
La Roche women's basketball will host Mt. Aloysius on Wednesday, December 12 in a rematch of last year's AMCC Tournament Semifinals. Tip-off is set for 6:00PM.
